“I never knew about micro cap stocks! Can you believe it? These companies (if identified correctly) have WAY more upside than the blue chips. Thanks for opening my eyes and helping me diversify my portfolio with a healthy group of micro caps. I think they are outperforming my large cap positions 5 to 1. Impressive!”

Another Electric Car Company

Filed under: — MicroCapPress Editor @ 10:39 am

After last week’s chat regarding the future of the electric car industry (and we don’t mean hybrids - we mean electric cars) we got a ton of great feedback and questions. Since this seemed to be such an interesting topic for many of you, we’re going to share some of the e-mails and questions we received. Here’s the first one regarding a foreign company working on the technology with Lotus….

Afternoon to you!

Read with interest your article on Hybrid cars, I have shares in a small UK company (also listed on the Canadian exchange) by the the Name of Turbo Power Systems (code; tps). They are working with Lotus cars on such developments and at 3.5 pence are worth a look. These shares were once at 950 pence (taking into account a share split at 2200p) and peaking at the 2850p level before the split.

The company is still there, still working and their technology is being used in the new Boeing Dreamliner.  With major changes to the Board they now appear to be looking at the Defence industry or the Defence industry is now looking at them!

Appreciate any comments. I have a holding in them of course, buying again after reading about the Board changes. With the removal of the development team it now looks as if they mean business.

Regards

Thanks for the e-mail. Unfortunately we can’t tell you any more about them than you know. In fact, you know more than we do. Almost all of our data is U.S.-based. Even Canadian stock information is tough to come by.

However, we’re happy to mention the company name and ticker in case anybody else can add something. If you know more about Turbo Power Systems, please add your comments below.

  1. EV1 Fully Electric Car

    Who Killed the Electric Car?
Seems so many people have not heard of the EV1. The car was on the roads in California. Owned by only a small group of people (approx. 70), to include actor Tom Hanks and I believe Mel Gibson ‘tried’ to get his hands on one. GM had a few page application even in-order to qualify to lease this car. Lease only, as GM, Bush Admiinistration (filed lawsuit against CA/EV1) and the big Oil all intended to squoosh this car. And squoosh this car they did. When the leases ran out, they took this 300 mile (on poor batteries 400-500miles on after market batteries) fully electric, 70mph, quiet car which you plugged in at home and ran them through a scrapper, that reduced the whole car to little pieces. GM said there was “No Demand,” even when there was a signed petition with thousands of people stating they would purchase the car immeadiatly.
Well, with all that said… Is there another company out there that is going to re-build another car like this one? There is one, ‘one’ EV1 left in a historical museum totally disabled.

    FATHER BLESS jim

Editor’s response: Thanks for the note. We had forgotten about that car, but you’re right - that was a first-generation success. We don’t know of a specific replacement, though we will point out there are indeed a few fully-functional electric cars on the road. They’re not everywhere, but there are more than 70. Anybody else have any thoughts or data?
